OREST CYCHMISTRUK (published on January 23, 2010)

OREST CYCHMISTRUK It is with deepest sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing on January 19, 2010 of our beloved husband, brother, uncle, stepfather, Opie, and friend. Orest is survived by his loving wife and life-long friend Helga, sisters Mary Jermoluk, Jean Gorzen, both of Winnipeg, Rose McIntosh, Swan River, brother Nelson, Edmonton, and brother-in-law Johnny Gessell, Winnipeg, nephews Orest (Ernie) Chornoby (his closest nephew), William Joyce, Ernie Cychmistruk, and nieces Cassie Veysey, Ida Saskowski, Teresa Pidskalny, Arlene Karbynal, and Dianne Emmel, numerous cousins in Manitoba, BC and USA, and not to be forgotten his four legged companion Tessa who gave him so much comfort. He will be deeply missed by his step family Darren, Elise, Ryan and Kristin Downey, along with his adorable step-granddaughters Brooke, Brynne and Braelyn who will miss their Opie greatly. His sister-in-law and brother-in-law Delores and Casey Wnuk and family Chad, Debbie, Scott, Lindsay, Ethan and Colby Wnuk all from Alberta. Orest was predeceased by his wife Cindy, parents Alex and Cassie and his brothers Steve, Bill, Joe and sisters Anne (Steve) Chornoby, Stella Gessell, Helen (Frank) Pidskalny, brothers-in-law Helyar Jermoluk, Bob McIntosh and David Gorzen, nephews Orest Pidskalny, Peter Chornoby, Edward, Adelin and Orillia Jermoluk. Orest was the 11th child born to Alex and Cassie (Kowaluk) on March 29, 1934 at Sclater, MB. Orest began his working career with CN, and then worked for four decades at Endurapak, (Bonar Bemis) where he met Helga 44 years ago. In the early 1990s, he was so proud of owning and operating his own business Orestco Inc. Orest was an honest businessman, a great employer and a man with immense integrity. His culinary skills exceeded the best chef's anywhere, and many were privileged to enjoy his creations. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, and was an exuberant fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the Winnipeg Jets. He was a great bowler, and enjoyed a good game of pool and golf. A finer individual would be hard to find, as he quietly put others before himself. He was God's answer to Helga's prayers and will forever be in her heart. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 59 Academy Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Reverend James Scholz will be officiating. Private interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Orest's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lutheran Church of the Redeemer Building Fund and the Humane Society. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
