| ASTA MAY RITA HOOPER (nee ZUCKERBERG) January 15, 1919 January 20, 2010 Asta Hooper passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in Calgary, AB at the age of 91 years. She is survived by her children, Ron (Sue), Nina (David) Reid and Rita; grandchildren, Daniel, Michael and Meaghan Reid, and Kris and Tom Hooper; and great-grandsons, Riley and Brandon Reid. Asta was predeceased by her beloved husband Ron in 2005. Asta was born in Russia and proudly retained her Russian heritage. She spent her childhood in Vancouver and in Castlegar, B.C. on Zuckerberg Island. After teaching in a one-room school in Fort St. John, Asta graduated from UBC with a Masters in Social Work. Along with her husband Ron, she worked as a social worker in Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg, ultimately retiring to Victoria, where Asta and Ron enjoyed many years of fellowship with the Unitarian Church, hiking and traveling. She spent her final years in Calgary. A family gathering will be held at a later date. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
