STEPHEN ROBERT KARR (published on January 27, 2010)

STEPHEN ROBERT KARR November 6, 1927 - January 24, 2010 After 82 great years, the last 57 with the love of his life Gwen, Dad was called suddenly to his new gig with the big band in the sky. Dad is survived by mom Gwen, his wife of 53 years, his sons Glenn and Dean, his grand-children Andrea, James, Adam, Kylie and his nieces Judy and Leslie. Apparently Dad was in a hurry to watch the Vikings game with our brother Tom as he left in an unexpected hurry. Dad grew up in Norwood and graduated from Nelson McIntyre Collegiate. Steve started his professional music career in Winnipeg at the age of 11. After graduation Steve then went on to travel North America as a professional musician. Dad settled down in Winnipeg, when Gwen, after many years, finally agreed to be his bride. Dad's love of music led to the founding of the first of many businesses, Hammond Organ Studios at Polo Park. Dad's outgoing personality and ability to remember anyone he had ever met led to immediate business success. Dad loved golf and curling and pursued this with a passion at St. Charles Country Club and as a member of the Deer Lodge Curling Club and the Granite Curling Club. Mom and Dad loved to travel and their many trips always led to new friends from around the world. In his later years Dad continued to enjoy bridge, long conversations about the financial markets, and reminiscing about the music industry in Winnipeg and good times with family and friends. Mom and Dad are blessed with many good and loyal lifelong fiends. Dad always attended the latest play, concert, soccer game or recital involving his grandchildren and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. We would like to thank the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service along with the Winnipeg Police, for their kindness and compassion. In accordance with Dad's wishes cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. To honour his memory a reception at the Silver Heights Restaurant, 2169 Portage Avenue, will be held Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Steve's name to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. The font of all information, a source of good cheer, the teller of great jokes, the heart of every party, the kindest of people. We will miss you.
