WILLIAM WREFORD FETTERMAN (published on January 28, 2010)

WILLIAM WREFORD FETTERMAN February 9, 1931 - January 26, 2010 With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of Bill Fetterman after a courageous fight against cancer. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Agnes, daughter Nancy, and grandson Sebastian. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Jane Fetterman, and his brothers Ben and Bob Fetterman. Bill lived on the farm near Grosse Isle all his life, completing High School in Grosse Isle, and earned his two year diploma in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba in 1951. He took over the family farm in 1966, converting the farm from mixed farming to a specialized Holstein breeding and dairy operation. He always had an eye to the future and kept up with the latest innovations, whether it be introducing mechanized silage making and mechanized feeding, or using an air seeder as part of his operations. Always an active member of the community, Bill was at various times a volunteer firefighter for the R.M. of Rosser, President of the Grosse Isle Recreation Centre, President of the Rosser Curling Club, and President of the Holstein Association. Bill also enjoyed travelling. He and his family enjoyed many spring breaks abroad, learning about the history and culture of an area. In later years he and his wife visited Australia, South Africa and Morocco. A memorial service will take place on Friday, January 29, 2:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations please be made to: CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, Phone: (204)787-4143, Toll Free: 1-877-407-2223, Fax: (204)786-0627, Email: donate@cancercare.mb.ca; or a charity of your choice.
