PETER STEPHEN NYCHEK (published on January 29, 2010)
PETER STEPHEN NYCHEK It is with love and fond memories that we announce the passing of Peter Stephen Nychek on January 27, 2010 at Holy Family Personal Care Home. Peter was born to Stefan Nychek and Irene Derkatch on September 8, 1917 in Oakburn, MB. He was the only boy among five sisters who all had stories to share about his escapades. He married Lena Zepa in 1942 and they took over the family farm at NE 1/4 13-19-23 where they raised their three children: Muriel, Patricia and John. Peter and Lena were actively involved in community life. He served as trustee on the King George School Board. As a long-time member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Olha, he was on various hall and church committees. He was also an active member of the Farmers Union. After semi-retiring in 1976, Peter and Lena became involved in the Parkland Ukrainian Pioneer Association. He enjoyed his part in researching pioneer life and collecting their stories to preserve in a local history book titled From The Past To The Present. Peter enjoyed lively music, singalongs, card games, horses and fishing. These interests have been passed on to his children and grandchildren who have cherished memories of him. Peter was predeceased by his wife Lena, sisters Anne Antonation, Mary Matiation, Rose Malanchuk, Stephie Molitowsky, infant brother John and son-in-law Graham Murray. Surviving him are his children: Muriel Murray, Patricia (Scott) Allen and John (Kathy Furman) Nychek along with grandchildren: Charles Murray and Jennifer Hallick, Kye and Kendra Allen and friend Chris Winterson, Kristin and Jennifer Nychek and fiance Matt Schultz. Also surviving Peter are his sister Mildred Zubrack and many nieces and nephews. The family is deeply grateful to Dr. T. Babick and the exceptional nursing staff, health care aides, food services personnel and volunteers at Holy Family for their care and support.
