DOROTHY HELEN BALLINGALL (published on January 30, 2010)

DOROTHY HELEN BALLINGALL (nee CLARK) After receiving a diagnosis of terminal cancer in August 2008, our Mother and Grandmother really taught us what it means to live one day at a time . Mom's wish was to die at home and she did so courageously and peacefully, with the love and support of her family on Thursday, January 28, 2010. Mom was predeceased by her husband Arthur Thomas Ballingall in 1993, and parents, Walter and Ella Clark, brother Carmen and infant sister Beryl. She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Jeff (Carola), Dawn Kidder, Janine and son-in-law Marty Scotten, Ian, and Arthur. Grandchildren, Kendra, Janine, Jenny, Katie, Braedon and Taylor. Also remembering, is her sister and brother-in-law, Lilian and Ron Young, sister-in-law Frances (Jimmy) Ballingall. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, fraternal sisters and brothers, and many friends. Mom was born on December 15, 1930, in Birtle, MB. She enjoyed life on the farm, moving to Winnipeg during the Second World War. Mom attended Daniel MacIntyre School and enjoyed a variety of jobs. Most of all she loved working at Johnny's soda counter, where she met the love of her life, Art , who she married in 1953. Mom was employed at Eaton's for over 25 years many of them as a respected supervisor. She retired in 1990 to spend time golfing and cruising with Dad. Mom always wanted to be a nurse and was Dad's primary care provider during his battle with cancer in 1993. For this she was awarded The Home Nursing Award by her family. Mom joined Olive Branch Historic Rebekah Lodge #1 in 1951. Mom was instrumental in organizing and installing El Hagar Zuanna, 132 in 1951. Fraternal life was central to Mom's life and she was very proud of 58 years of Friendship, Love and Truth. This past summer Mom was honoured in receiving the most prestige international award, The Golden Owl Jewel . This award recognizes her many works of charity, too numerous to note, through the Supreme Royal Zuanna. Mom enjoyed many hobbies over the years, including knitting, darts, cribbage, scrabble, cooking and baking for others, especially her family. Our sincere gratitude for the many acts of kindness from friends and family. Special thanks to Dr. Gabriel, Paulette and Alfred of LeClerc Pharmacy, the great team at the Tuxedo Safeway Pharmacy and especially the visiting Christmas Carolers, who all did much more than sing one night. You helped us to find joy through this journey. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Grenadiers' Hong Kong Veteran Scholarship Fund, in care of #207-97 Swindon Way, Winnipeg, MB R3P 0W3. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 1 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery. On the wings of a with our love. NEIL BARDAL INC. 204-949-2200
