GRACE ELAINE PURDEY (published on January 30, 2010)



GRACE ELAINE PURDEY (nee SWITZER) Peacefully, on January 26, 2010, at Victoria General Hospital, Grace Purdey passed away at the age of 85. Grace is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Richard (Dick), daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Rick Pinchin, grandson Jeffrey Pinchin and her brother and sister-in-law Lorne and Martha Switzer of Vancouver. Grace was born on March 18, 1924 in Wapella, Saskatchewan to Howard and Florence Switzer. Besides her parents, Grace was predeceased by her siblings Stewart Switzer, Margaret Smith and Norma Milne. Grace was raised on the family farm and worked at the local bank in Wapella where she met and eventually married Dick upon his return from the Second World War. Grace and Dick moved to Winnipeg in 1946 and in 1947 their daughter Pat was born. Grace and Dick lived on Somerville Avenue in Fort Garry for 45 years and enjoyed the friendships of countless neighbours. They were members of the Southwood Golf and Country Club for 31 years where they were active members and developed many close lifelong friendships amongst their golf group. Grace and Dick have spent their last 12 years living in Silverview Estates. Upon Dick's retirement, he and Grace spent 17 years on vacation, golfing and traveling. Grace was always the most loving, encouraging wife, mother and grandmother. She truly personified her name Grace . She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Many thanks for all the care and kindness provided by the staff of Victoria General Hospital. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
