MARGARET WASS (published on February 06, 2010)

MARGARET WASS Peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, surrounded by her family, Margaret Wass passed away at the age of 81 years. Margaret was predeceased by sisters, Emma Henschell, Esther Schmidt, Doreen Burt, brother Fred Martin and parents, Saraphina (Zierk) and Henry Martin. Cherishing her memory are her children, Barbara (Drew) Duff, Bonnie (Brian) Parkes, Melanie (Mark) Tooley, David Wass (Cheryl Cusack), and grandchildren, Chris, Heather, Melissa, AJ and Meghan. She is survived and will be missed by Lars Wass; her loving sisters Elsie Patzer (Beausejour), Martha May and Erna Palmer (Albuquerque, New Mexico) and brother Albert Martin (Gerrie) of Winnipeg, as well as many treasured nieces, nephews and wonderful caring friends. Margaret was born in Beausejour, Manitoba in 1928 and moved to Winnipeg as a teenager. She was a long-time employee of both the T. Eaton Company and The Hudson Bay Company department stores until her retirement in 1993. Margaret's life centered on her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and was always there to help when needed, offering encouragement through her loving presence and steadfast support. She enjoyed filling her life with her passions: sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, collecting stamps and coins, baking bread, gardening, fishing, berry picking and playing many games of competitive Scrabble! She participated in skiing and curling, and throughout her life Margaret was a very enthusiastic and faithful fan of the Winnipeg Jets, the Manitoba Moose, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. She loved to travel when she could and visited Europe, California, Nevada, and most often traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where three of her cherished sisters and their families resided. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her many family members, gathering for a meal, a pot of tea and conversation. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg, Reverend Nancy Sanders officiating. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the Beausejour Town Cemetery. The family would like to extend special gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff of River Park Gardens Personal Care Home for their devotion and compassionate care of our mother for the last two and a half years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Margaret to River Park Gardens Personal Care Home, to enhance programs for the elderly, at 735 St. Anne's Road, Winnipeg Manitoba R2N 0C4, or a charity of your choice.
