NORA DOWNIE WELCH (published on February 06, 2010)

NORA DOWNIE WELCH Sunrise: April 13, 1944 Sunset: January 25, 2010 Daughter of Miss Vivian Williams and Mr. Edward Downie, late of Somerset, Trinity-Ville, St. Thomas, Jamaica. Migrated from tropical (three village) Trinity Ville, Jamaica to (winterpeg) Winnipeg, Canada in late 1966, with husband Wesley joining her in 1968. Two daughters, Monica and Carol joined them in 1969. Mom and dad became successful business people establishing a store in Winnipeg which eventually sprouted into three other Canadian cities, Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto. Mom was happy with the arrival of her son Steve (having mothered three beautiful daughters, Monica, Carol and Loraine by then) who bore her four grandchildren, Kareem, Shae, Martyka and Siobhan. Her last grandparental wish was the gift of Tyus (three months) by Carolyn and Steve, with whom mom visited in Ottawa before heading to Jamaica to visit with families which proved to be her last trip home. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and offer a special thanks to uncles Trevor, Earl, aunts, Tutsy, and Beverley, families and friends too numerous to mention; a special thanks to all who made the sacrifice to be here with us from this island, the US, UK and Canada. I think our mom had most of her final wishes realized, like burial near her parents here in Jamaica. Funeral service on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at The Jamaica Bible Church Somerset at 1:00 p.m. Interment follows in the family plot, Somerset. A memorial service to be held in Winnipeg at a later date.
