IRVIN PHILLIP WURCH (published on February 16, 2010)

IRVIN PHILLIP WURCH Irvin Phillip Wurch passed peacefully from this life and went home to be with the Lord February 10, 2010. His devoted wife Marion lovingly cared for him through a lengthy illness. Irvin was born August 2, 1930 in St. Ouens, Manitoba and spent his boyhood on the farm there. In 1952 he married Marion Nicholson and together they had three children, Daniel of Dryden, Glenda (John) Nordstrom and Cindy (Shawn) Slagle both of Ottawa, Illinois. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Rebecca Wurch, Melissa Nordstrom-Terry (Andrew), Andrea, Gentry and Kristen Nordstrom, and Justin, Allison and Nicholas Slagle. They each have fond memories of fishing with Grandpa. He was predeceased by his parents Wanda and Adolf Wurch, his sister Alice Boss and brother Leonard. He leaves to mourn one brother, George and six sisters, Lily Storsley, Rose Kelbert, Edna Williams, Velma Wittmeier, Norma Nicholson and Sadie Dewey. In 1955 Irvin left the farm to attend Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, MN and graduated in 1958. He served as pastor of the United Pentecostal Church in Dryden for nearly 50 years. His love for the First Nation people inspired him to travel to the northern reserves to minister. He enjoyed playing several brass instruments, taxidermy, woodworking, fishing and hunting. Funeral services were held at Stevens Funeral Homes, Moffat Chapel on Monday, February 15. Interment took place at St. Ouens Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Dryden Regional Health Center CT Scan Fund, through Stevens Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 412, Dryden, Ontario P8N 2Z1.
