THELMA LEVIN (published on February 16, 2010)

THELMA LEVIN Thelma Beatrice Levin (nee Johnson) passed away peacefully on February 12, 2010, at age 87 years. Thelma was born in Erickson, Manitoba on September 12, 1922, to parents of Scandinavian origin. She received her diploma as a registered nurse in 1945 at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg, earning the gold medal. She married Dr. Sam Levin, who predeceased her in 1978. She is survived by their four sons Brian, Bob (Bobby), Gordon, and Keith (Babette), eight grandchildren David, Daniel, Michael, Sara, Samantha, Katie, Eric, and Emily, two great-grandchildren Morgan and Loklin, and by her sister Alice, nieces and nephews. Thelma and Sam lived in Rosthern, Saskatchewan for several years after Sam's graduation from medical school, and returned to Winnipeg where they raised their family. When her sons were old enough, Thelma returned to school at the University of Manitoba where she earned her Bachelor of Nursing in 1971, and her law degree (LL.B.) in 1975. She worked with the Government of Manitoba drafting health legislation, and then as Assistant Director of Nursing with the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg until retirement. Thelma moved to Kelowna in 2006. The family wish to thank the caring staff at Three Links Manor where Thelma resided the past two years. Interment and service will be in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the Hebrew Sick Benefit Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Thelma's name to the charity of your choice. A commemoration of Thelma's life is planned for the late spring in Winnipeg.
