LAWRENCE OGRODNIK (published on February 18, 2010)



LAWRENCE OGRODNIK After a brief stay in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, BC, Lawrence O'Grodnik, aged 79, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2010. Lawrence is survived by his children, Larry of Vancouver BC, Janice (Greg) of Salmon Arm BC, Allan (Judy) of Mississauga ON. Lawrence also leaves his grandchildren Tyler, Lindsay (Robbie), Kayley and Lauren. Lawrence grew up in Beaconia, MB. After moving to Winnipeg he met his life-long partner, Ann. They married in 1951 and raised their family sharing many cherished times in Winnipeg and at the cottage at Falcon Lake. Lawrence took pride in a job well done. He worked for Ray-O-Vac Batteries as a quality control manager for 37.5 years, did home repairs and built the cottage as a labour of love. He loved gardening, berry picking, playing crib, laughing, a good party and spending time with family and friends. Lawrence was predeceased by wife Ann (nee Horobec) in 2004, parents Sadie and Nick, siblings Olga (Mike), Anne, Helen (Bernie) Norman, Mary (Maxie). He is survived by Steve (Josie) and Jean (Russell), his caring brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. After Ann's passing Larry stayed in Winnipeg to care for Lawrence, and then Lawrence moved to Salmon Arm to stay with Janice and Greg, and family. When his Alzheimer's disease worsened, he moved to Bastion Place Special Care home where he was cared for lovingly. Prayers will take place at 7.00 p.m. on Friday, February 19 at Garry Memorial Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Winnipeg. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 20 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Caliento, MB with Fr. Gregory Zubacz Celebrant. Interment to follow in parish cemetery. In Lawrence's memory donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Assoc. or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
