JOSEPH LAVITT (published on February 19, 2010)

JOSEPH LAVITT 1924 - 2010 Passed away February 12, 2010. Survived by his loving and devoted wife Sylvia, children Carey (Bernie), Frank (Ahava), Gail (Ron), grandchildren Jennifer (Mat Kostrinsky), Farrah (Ryan O'Colman), Sam (Rachel) Simkin, Carli Simkin, Andrew Worb, Samantha Worb and great-grandchildren Hank and David Kostrinsky and Jonah Simkin. Also survived by brothers Marvin (Renée) and family, Adam (Judy) and family, and sister-in-law Anne. A pharmacist by profession he retired in 1989 and spent his retirement winters happily with his wife in Palm Springs, California. His favourite hobbies were photography and genealogy. But what was most important and gave him the greatest pleasure was his family. Conversations with grandchildren would end with I love you Zaide to which he would always reply I love you too, Be well. Funeral services were held at Etz Chayim Synagogue on Sunday, February 14, 2010, with burial at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bernie and Sam Simkin, Ron and Andrew Worb, Michael Lazar and Harvey Garfinkel. Honorary pallbearers were Ryan O'Colman, Mat Kostrinsky, Abe Simkin, Sid Halpern, Bernie Gunn, Fivie Gunn, Irv Garfinkel, and Dr. Craig Hildahl. The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to Rabbi Larry Lander for his meaningful tribute and to Dr. Craig Hildahl for his compassionate care for many years.
