A. JAMES LOWTHER (published on February 25, 2010)

A. JAMES LOWTHER After a heroic struggle with many illnesses, and surrounded by his family, Jim passed away February 22, 2010 at St. Boniface Hospital. Jim is survived by Elaine, his wife of 65 years; daughters Joanne (Robert), Dianne (Greg), son Tom (Gail), grandchildren Karen, Derek, Craig, Tony, Sara, Sheri, and Kimi; great-grandchildren Kyle and Elizabeth, brother Frank (Rini). Jim will also be remembered by numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and many close friends. Jim was predeceased by his mother Dorothy, brothers Jack and Ed. Jim was born in Winnipeg and called it home his entire life, no matter where his Air Force postings took him. Dad loved to travel, whether it was short or long trips. While stationed at 4Wing in Germany, the family travelled Europe extensively. The amount of camping equipment Dad was able to fit into the Opel was truly amazing. Dad and Mom's travels took them west to Victoria, east to Prince Edward Island, north to Alaska and south to Australia as well as many points in between. Jim enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family - cribbage being his favourite. In August 2009, after almost 80 years of playing, his persistent nature was finally rewarded with the perfect 29 hand! Jim enjoyed a number of jobs throughout his lifetime - a driver for Winnipeg Transit, as an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force and then in the office at Bristol Aerospace after he retired. Dad was a kind, patient, strong-willed, loyal, thoughtful person and family was always important to him. He will be sadly missed and always in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
