SYLVIA JUNE ELLIOTT July 22, 1936 - February 17, 2010 With heartfelt sadness and everlasting love, we announce the peaceful passing of Sylvia Elliott on February 17, 2010 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Sylvia was born in Winnipeg, and grew up in the Wolseley area with her parents, sister, aunts and uncles and best friend Joyce Lobson. She loved to ice skate in the winter and summers were spent with her family and friends at Winnipeg Beach. She graduated from Gordon Bell High School and her career as an administrator began with National Insurance Adjusters. Sylvia met the love of her life David and they were married shortly thereafter in 1960. They moved west to live in Calgary and Vancouver before moving back with their children to Winnipeg in 1978. The family resided in St. Vital and enjoyed many summers at their trailer at Spruce Sands and Winnipeg Beach. Sylvia enjoyed her career as an executive administrator with the Manitoba Development Corporation making life long friendships before retiring in 1991. Sylvia and David enjoyed many trips together especially those to visit her sister and family in Ontario, extended stays in Florida were also highlights in their adventures together. Sylvia was an active member of the community; she loved her special friends at Bonaventure Village who became her extended family. She served as a board member and liaison for many years and also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Sylvia enjoyed retirement to focus on her family and grandchildren, every occasion was made special by her generosity, detailed touches and attention. She was an extraordinary, loving mom, grandma and great-grandma. She will be remembered for all of the love and support she gave to her family, friends and many pets. Sylvia was predeceased by her loving husband David. Left to cherish her memory, son Michael (Marlyn), daughter Lynne (Tim), sister Shirley (Stan), brother-in-law Ray (Lil), special Aunt Bernice Mueller, grandchildren Alea (Derek), Dana, Pierre and Johnathan and great-granddaughter Emma, extended family Dorothy Morris, Gloria and Mary Huckles, Art Lobson, Ingrid Wiebe, Tania Druwe, Nicole Bennett, Ruth Bonneville and Sue Roach as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews and very dear friends who have all shown such wonderful support and compassion over the past few weeks of Sylvia's illness. The family would like to thank the staff on the 3rd, 4th and 7th floors at the St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness and compassion shown to Sylvia and her family. A special thank-you to Carolyn Cook, Lexi and Teresa Chabidon for looking after loved ones, so that her family could be at her side for her final days. A memorial service will held Saturday, February 27 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
