ALFRED (AL) HUMMEL (published on February 26, 2010)

ALFRED (AL) HUMMEL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alfred (Al) Hummel, formerly of Faulkner, MB, on February 24, 2010 at his residence in Ashern. He fought a long and hard battle with cancer and is finally at peace and has his family's blessings. Al had a busy and productive life that started at a very young age. He had a full career with Alcan Glass that took him between Calgary and Vancouver. He finally settled on the farm in Faulkner in 1977. Al married Carrie Ann Kaus in 1971 and between them they raised four children. He took an active role in the community, serving terms on the RM council and the Super Six board. Al was instrumental in the development of the Steep Rock Beach and the Faulkner Community Hall. Whether it be his family, friends, his community or the many children that rode his school bus for 20 years, he threw his heart into everything that he did for them. Al was predeceased by his wife Carrie Ann and her parents Art and Breta Kaus, his parents Louis and Marie, and a baby sister Lucy. He is survived by his children Judy (Patrick) Lafond, Darcy, Colin and Sheldon (Jude); his grandchildren Kael, Ella, Riley, and Rubee. He is also survived by his partner Reita Widgill and her extended family; a sister Shirley (Edward) Walz, brother Tony, brother-in-law Bengt (Caroline) Kaus, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and valued friends. We know Al is in heaven where for him all wine will be homemade, everyone will polka, all farmers will be rich and everyone will drive a DODGE. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place and a service in honour of Al will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Faulkner Community Hall with Fr Paul Bisson and Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Service will conclude at the hall. Interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Faulkner Cemetery or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc. - 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. The family wishes to thank everyone who was involved in Al's care and all those that extended their support. Arrangements by: Arnason Funeral Home Ashern - Lundar (204) 768-2072 1-866-323-3593
