JIM BANKS (published on February 27, 2010)



JIM BANKS Peacefully, after a brief illness, Jim Banks passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on February 25, 2010. He was born on July 27, 1949 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, predeceased by his parents William and Yvonne Banks. Jim will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Jennifer, son Christopher (Keri) and daughter Lisa (Dave), grandchildren, Sabrina, Emma, Matthew James Jim's family was very important to him, especially the grandchildren. He was always there for their concerts, plays, recitals, and sports activities. Taking them on trips and just spending time with them brought him such joy. He loved to relate stories about them to anyone who would listen. Jim was employed by Canada Safeway for 38 and one-half years, where he made many lifelong friends. He was very involved in the union movement and held various positions over the many years, lastly as President of Manitoba Joint Council and The Chair of Local 468 Macdonalds Consolidated. Thanks to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion they gave to Jim. Also, thanks to George Czul and Bernie McLellan for all their help and friendship. Cremation has taken place and no formal funeral service will be held as Jim requested. A private family interment will be held at a later date. A reception in memory of Jim will be held at the Four Points Sheraton Winnipeg South Hotel, 2935 Pembina Hwy. on Tuesday, March 2, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital CancerCare Centre, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Humane Society.
