JAMES STEWART ALEXANDER (published on February 27, 2010)

JAMES STEWART ALEXANDER June 17, 1929 - February 23, 2010 After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Jim passed away peacefully at his home on Grant Avenue. He was a resident of Winnipeg for almost 81 years, growing up and attending school in St. James. He served in the R.C.A.F. as an aero engine mechanic, then worked at Standard Aero Engine (for 25 years), and completed his work career at Sears/Polo Park. He was one of five children born to the late George and Nellie Alexander. Predeceased by his sister Margaret (John), Jim will forever be remembered by his devoted and loving sisters Jean (Ken), Betty (George) and Elsie. Jim's loss will be profoundly felt by Barbara Mary Alexander (Wigg), his beloved wife for over 58 years, his beloved children Ted (Marcia), Ron (Rita) and Dawn (Wayne), and treasured grandchildren Ryan (Emily), Jonathan, Lauren (Tanner), Sean, Ashley and Michelle, as well as great-grandchildren McLaren, Rowan and Zavier. Jim was blessed with countless other family and friends, with very special memories of the Wigg extended family, including his predeceased in-laws Ted and Mary. He greatly valued his many friends during his life including Velma, Suzy and Craig. Jim loved books, was capable of doing a myriad of technical tasks with ease, and immensely enjoyed conversation with family and friends. In his later years, after losing his sight, he particularly enjoyed listening to audio tapes on a wide variety of subjects, and very much relished listening to his beloved Yankees on satellite radio. And, of course, he loved engaging his many friends over a coffee at Grant Park daily. He maintained his trademark sense of humour all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to remember Jim at his apartment on Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the many palliative care personnel who took such wonderful care of our husband/father. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the C.N.I.B.
