DR. (JAMES) COMRIE MCCAWLEY (published on February 27, 2010)

DR. (JAMES) COMRIE MCCAWLEY August 13, 1922 February 25, 2010 On Thursday, February 25, 2010, Comrie passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital with his family at his side. He is survived by Mona, his beloved wife of 60 years, his four children, Deborah (Otto Lang and Andrew and Rebecca Parkinson); Susan (Dennis Hewitt); Leslie (Harry Jung, Laura Bartley and Lauren and Jack Jung); Casey (Alexandra and Quinn McCawley); sisters Sheila Fry (Bill) and Iris Dye; and brother Doug McCawley. Comrie was born in Winnipeg. He received his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1946 and remembers fondly his time in practice in Bisset, MB before going to England for post graduate work. After receiving his Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons he returned to Winnipeg where he had a distinguished medical career for over 40 years. He was a modest, gentle man, a man of principle with a delightful sense of humour. His family and friends were the most important things in his life and his happiest times were with them at the cottage at Sandy Bay on Lake Winnipeg. He was passionate in his love of the land and the north, cared deeply for animals and protecting those who were vulnerable, and enjoyed music and the simple things in life. A celebration of Comrie's life will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road, Winnipeg. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers a donation to the Salvation Army in his memory would be appreciated. The Salvation Army, 55 Donald Street, Winnipeg MB R3C 1L8
