DAVID MCFETRIDGE (published on March 06, 2010)

DAVID MCFETRIDGE Peacefully, in his 97th year, David McFetridge passed away on the morning of Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Misericordia Extended Care Unit. David was predeceased by his wife (his girl) May, his parents, John and Elizabeth, brother, Tom and an infant son. Left to cherish his memory are his four sons: David (Joanne), Tom and wife Shannon, Jim (Michele) and Bill (Shelley) and six grandchildren: Kelsey, Kaitlyn, Alyson, Erin, Kayla and Darren, three sisters: Maria Bissett, Sarah MCall, and Ellen Burn and one brother, Bert, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and the remaining soldiers from his regiment. Dad was born in County Antrim, Ireland in 1913 and came to Canada with his family in 1926. Grande Pointe was where they settled and farmed. Dad worked for the T. Eaton Company for over 40 years before and after the Second World War. David was a proud member of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and was part of the invasion force during D-Day on the beaches of Normandy. He was still a member of the Rifles Association, one of the oldest serving members, right up until his passing. He hunted and fished with his sons over the years, but, if truth be told, the rides in the country were all that mattered. They were like small vacations and meant so much to him. David was a quiet, humble and well read man. He was a well respected man by those who worked or fought and served along with him. He was a husband who, for many years, loved an ailing and bedridden wife and on her passing, he wept and proclaimed She was my girl . He truly was a special man and all who knew him would understand what this statement means. He was a gentle gentleman, a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. So farewell, soldier, your duty and service is finished. It has been and honour and we thank you. David has been cremated and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0X4 783-7211 Condolences may be sent to
