EDWIN SAWA (published on March 06, 2010)

EDWIN SAWA Edwin Sawa passed away peacefully on March 2, 2010. Ed's memory will be forever cherished by his wife Liane and children Steven and Ellyn. He will be missed by his devoted companion Joey. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brothers Jim (Judy), Gord (Barb), sister Ellie (Gord), mother-in-law Lillian, brother-in-law Glenn, sister-in-law Janne (Scott), numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents Anne and Walter Sawa, father-in-law Victor Wlosek, and Amma Snowy Peterson. Ed spent the last two years dealing with cancer. During this time he was determined to keep a positive attitude and did this by reflecting on the many blessings in his life. He was most thankful for his family and friends. He had constant support from so many family members, lifelong friends, neighbours, work friends, car guys, and special visits from dear little friends Carter and Isabella. Ed was so grateful for the care he received at CancerCare and the Health Sciences Centre. We are also thankful for the help of the palliative care team and Riverview Health Centre. Ed was thankful to have been employed with Hussmann Canada for twenty-five years. He took great pride in his work and was pleased to have worked with so many dedicated people over the years. He travelled extensively for work and made friends in every town he visited. Ed had many happy memories of his younger days. He had great times with his friends and family and was always the life of the party. He was a talented goalie and played for teams in Gimli, Riverton, and Winnipeg. He loved to golf, fish and go on camping trips. Ed was a car guy and was passionate about classic cars. His 1967 Malibu and 1969 Nova were his prize possessions. He enjoyed being a member of the Gimli Car Club and had lots of fun cruising with them. Ed's most important roles were as a husband and father. He was devoted to us and was a proud dad. He took great interest in everything Steven and Ellyn were interested in. He practiced every sport, listened to every story and watched every movie. He made every day special and we will miss him so much. Funeral service will be held on Saturday March 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Parish, 341 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg. Those who wish to make a memorial donation may contribute to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Rm. ON1160, Winnipeg, R3E 0V9, or to the Gimli Car Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 582, Gimli, MB, R0C 1B0.
