ADINA KROEGER (published on March 06, 2010)

ADINA KROEGER Adina Kroeger (nee Klassen) died peacefully on Monday, March 1, 2010 at age 83 in Concordia Hospital. She will be deeply missed by her two sons Ernie and Werner, daughter-in-law Kimberley and nephew David. She will also be missed by her sister Wally and extended family, many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Peter in 2002. Adina was born in Nikolaipol, Ukraine on June 27, 1926. She grew up during a time of upheaval and strife and at age 17 decided to become a nurse. She worked as a nurse in Germany during the Second World War. After the war she was reunited with her family and emigrated to Canada in 1949 and settled in Winnipeg. She met Peter in 1950 and they were married on October 14th the same year. Their first son Walter was born in 1951 but sadly only lived for one day. They were blessed with two more sons, Ernie and Werner. The family lived a wonderful life at 1214 Valour Road, which was home for 40 years. Adina also continued her nursing career in Canada working at the old Bethania, Winnipeg General Hospital, St. Joseph's Nursing Home and for the Victoria Order of Nurses. Up until about one year ago she continued to do volunteer work at Bethania and was known to all as a very kind and generous person. There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, March 9 at 10:30 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue, with Pastor Franz Wiebe officiating. A reception will be held at First Mennonite Church prior to the interment at Brookside Cemetery. The family thanks the volunteers and home care workers at Bethania as well as the nurses at Concordia Hospital for their loving and devoted care of Adina. In her memory, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
