Salvatore was born in Castelmezzano, Potenza, Italy on November 14, 1904, the second last of 10 children. He was married to Maria Giuseppa Paterno for 50 years until she passed away in 1974. He inherited the sopranome of family nickname of Cantatore from his father and claimed it as his own through his love of song and playing the accordion. He and his beloved wife raised their 10 children mostly in Castelmezzano, Italy where he had a mill and on their farm outside of town. At 74 years of age, he moved to Canada to live with his second youngest son, Rocco and his wife Lucia and their three children. He was very proud of his garden that he kept until he was 101 years. He enjoyed a good card game of scope or tre sette with one of his sons or grandchildren and playing solitaire. When his vision permitted, he enjoyed reading and watching wrestling with obvious enthusiasm, mimicking some of the moves. He welcomed everyone with his unique and warm smile. His pride and joy were his family. His birthdays were an event that brought the family together and made him so happy to be the center of attention and appreciation. Pallbearers will be Mario Raimondi, Giovanni Amico, Salvatore Pellettieri, Alex Vasiri, Tim Braun, Sal Pellettieri, Sam Pellettieri and Nick Pellettieri.
