JAMES (JIM) ROBERT MORRISON (published on March 06, 2010)

JAMES (JIM) ROBERT MORRISON March 12, 1930 February 28, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and Avi, at the age of 79 years, on Sunday, February 28, 2010, at the St. Boniface Hospital, Palliative Care Unit. Jim will always be remembered and loved by his wife Irene, of 57 years; three children Gordon (Judy), Gerald (Rebecca), and Leslie (Patrick); grandchildren Sarah, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Leah, Hailey, Jana and Alec. Born in Winnipeg to immigrant parents, Jessica (nee Baigrie) and John Smith Morrison from Edinburgh, Scotland, Jim was very proud of his Scottish heritage. He grew up in the West End of Winnipeg with his older brother William (Billy), attending General Wolfe, Greenway and Daniel Macintyre Schools. Dad would always speak fondly of his childhood, taking family members for tours of the West End and reminiscing of his exploits with many friends he made along the way. He met and fell in love with Irene Page while attending Greenway School. He always appreciated the kindness of Irene's family as they always considered and treated Dad as one of their own and he always felt a part of their family. Dad and Mom were married on September 20, 1952 and settled into their only home in St. James to raise their three children where Dad lived until his passing. Being a hard worker made Jim very successful in business. He started off his career working for Air Canada and Bristol Aerospace. For over 30 years he was an Agent for Esso Canada, prior to his retirement. Our father was an Active Free Mason and a long time member of the Khartum Shrine Temple. He was very proud of his recent five years service as a volunteer driver for CancerCare. Over our father's lifetime he travelled extensively with his wife. He enjoyed golfing, walks in the park, the mall and on the beach with his Irene. He had a passion for history which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Even though we only had our family dog Patches for 10 years, he loved his dog very much. Jim is best known for giving advice, looking for a bargain, an outgoing sense of humour, love for antiques and being a great friend, maintaining close friendships, many for over 50 years. James, Jamie, Jim, Dad, Avi and Uncle Morrison, we will never forget you. You were a GREAT husband, father, grandfather, in-law, uncle, nephew, and neighbour. You have touched many people's lives in so many memorable ways. In keeping with James's wishes, a private family service has occurred. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff who work at the Grace Hospital on 4 South and the Emergency Department, St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit and especially Dr. Brian Ritchie and Pastor Michael Kurtz. In lieu of flowers Jim wanted donations to be made to The First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3G 1R2 or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E OV9. To Irene from Jim: But to see her was to love her, love but her, and love forever Robert Burns
