ETHEL MARIAN HAYWARD (published on March 06, 2010)

ETHEL MARIAN HAYWARD November 23, 1924 - February 25, 2010 Ethel Marian Hayward passed away quietly at the age of 85. She was the beloved wife of Roland B. Hayward, mother of Douglas and Rowland, his wife Marilyn, and grandmother to Adam and Julie, Sean, Catherine, Rowland C and Jenette, Christopher, Jason and Jennifer. She was predeceased by her mother Ivy Irene (nee Mae) and father George W. Spence, her sister Irene Irwin and her husband Roland. Mom, Gran to her grandchildren, welcomed visitors to her home from all over. As well as her passion for curling, golfing, bridge, reading and travelling she made herself interested in whatever interested you. She always listened and made you feel special and important. Gran especially loved to visit with her grandchildren and to share in their lives and adventures. She loved and listened music from Frank Sinatra to Glen Gould to the Beatles, read widely from mysteries and biography to science and the universe. For Gran, it made no difference if it was an injury, a school activity, a game, something lost or something found, she loved being a part of and changing the text of the family story. Her advice was always simple and wise. If we complained that the road was too long, task too hard or that we were too tired to continue, she usually listened, smiled and then advised us that it would be wise to finish our homework. We will miss her here, but keep listening for her counsel. We would like to thank the staff at Oakview for their tender care of Gran throughout her time living there. As she wished, there will be a private family service. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
