| CATHERINE ANTHONY On Friday, February 26, 2010 with her loving family by her side at the Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock BC, Catherine peacefully ended her life's journey at the age of 90 years young. Catherine is survived by her sons Robert (Sandra and children Derek, Darren, Robyn), Douglas (Roberta and children Trish and Robyn), and her daughter Kimberley. Also left to mourn are our Manitoba relatives that meant so much to her, extended family and many friends all dear to her heart. Catherine Gordina Mae McLaren was born in Russell, Manitoba on August 18, 1919. She was the youngest of eight children and spent her early years on the farm in Grandview. She came to the big city of Winnipeg during the war years and in 1947 married Michael and settled down to raise their family. When Mick passed away in 1997, Catherine bravely carried on as the Matriarch of the family and was the solid centerpiece which held our lives together. Family was of utmost importance to Mom and she always showed sincere interest and delight in our lives, our friends and our accomplishments. We were truly fortunate to have her with us for so long. We loved her dearly as she in turn loved all of us. Mom was keenly interested in sports and the fate of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. She was also a hockey fan with regular bets placed with her niece Marg Parker and cheered for the Canucks after the loss of the Jets. Catherine lived her life with the utmost grace, style and dignity and was always prepared for fun, laughter, a glass of red wine and good times shared with family and friends. Her sincere and loving nature endeared her to everyone she met. The family extends our gratitude to the Peace Arch Hospital 5th floor ACE unit for their compassionate care given to Catherine. No service by request. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation or charity of choice would be appreciated. A celebration of Catherine's life will be held in May in Manitoba. Mom, you will always be the light of our lives and your memory will be forever in our hearts. |
