GASTON ALBERT ARCHAMBAULT (published on March 10, 2010)

GASTON ALBERT ARCHAMBAULT 1921 - 2010 Gaston Archambault, age 88 years, beloved husband of Kay Archambault, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2010 in the palliative care room of the Ste. Rose General Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Exina, his son Raymond, and siblings, Bernadette, Andre, Yvonne, Lucien, Raoul, Marie-Rose, Bernard and Lucille. Left to cherish and mourn Gaston are his wife of 62 years Kay and his children Bob Archambault (Audrey), Darcy Archambault (Terri-Lynn), Pat Pennycook (Chris) and Margaret Woods (Nelson), his grandchildren Wade, Nicole, Ryan, Natalie, Eric and Matthew Archambault, Karly and Taylor Woods and Randy and Jordan Pennycook, his siblings Hector and Florence Archambault, and Blanche Molgat, his sister-in-law Margaret Carmichael as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Gaston, or Papa, as he was fondly called by his grandchildren, lived and worked on the family farm in Ste. Rose until 1968. At that time, he moved into the town of Ste. Rose and began his second career as a carpenter. Papa was a great husband, a proud father, a wonderful grandfather and a sincere friend. One of his favourite pastimes was camping. Many summers were spent at Manipogo camping with the Valcourt family and travelling to various parts of North America. When he was nearing retirement, he decided to take up golfing. This became a passion of his. He had many enjoyable golf days with his buddies. While Papa was a great husband, father and friend, there was one role that he excelled and what brought him the greatest joy, and also helped him through some tough times when his illness made him give up some of his activities. This was his role of being a grandfather. His grandchildren loved him and have lots of fond memories of the time they shared with him. What stands out the most to them is that he was the one adult who was always willing to spend countless hours down on the floor playing cards, mini-sticks, reading or building Lego houses. Papa is now in heaven with his parents, son, siblings and friends. We were all able to say our goodbyes and somehow letting him go was not so painful knowing that he is now at peace. We all know that Papa is now golfing with his buddies on the golf courses in Heaven. A prayer service for Gaston was held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with the funeral mass celebrated at 2:00 p.m. from Ste. Rose de Lima Roman Catholic Church, Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba. Fr. Vincent de Paul Tchaoule as celebrant. Interment to take place in the Ste. Rose Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank the Ste. Rose Hospital staff and the Home Care staff for their care and kindness shown to Gaston and his family. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in memory of Gaston to the Parkinson's Society of Canada or to the Palliative Care Program of the Ste. Rose General Hospital in care of of the Prevost Foundation. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services, Ste. Rose Chapel, in care of arrangements, (204) 447-2444, www.sneathstrilchuk.com
