KARALEE ANN GRANT 1986 2010 Peacefully with her family at her side, Karalee Ann Grant passed away on March 7, 2010 at the age of 23. Karalee's beautiful and vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of her loving family - parents Kim and Keith, sister Kelsey (Darryl Steckly), brother Kyle, Karalee's special friend, Kurt Kuz, and her loving dog, Walter Payton. Karalee will also be forever loved and remembered by her grandparents, Beverly and Allan Forsberg, and Audrey Grant; Aunts and Uncles Debbie and Manfred Rehm, Lynne and Kevin Grant, cousins Marlo and Camryn. Karalee was predeceased by her grandfather Bruce Grant, her infant sister Kaitlyn, and brother Kristopher. Karalee grew up in Charleswood, attending Beaverlodge Elementary School, Bruce Junior High, and graduated from Westwood Collegiate where she met many of her lifelong friends. She enjoyed playing hockey, fastball, ringette, and was definitely a skilled negotiator/debator. At the young age of 19, Karalee was diagnosed with a rare sinus cancer (olfactory neuroblastoma). While undergoing treatment Karalee became a young adult cancer advocate. She spoke at several schools sharing her story with a passion to inform people that cancer can affect anyone at any age. To further this cause Karalee started her career at the Canadian Cancer Society as an Information Assistant for the Manitoba Division. Karalee was involved in volunteer work, numerous campaign endorsements, media events, and speaking engagements. Most recently, Karalee was honoured by the Canadian Cancer Society with the National Medal of Courage . Karalee touched a great many lives with her strength and positive outlook. Her spirited personality and determination to enjoy life in spite of her cancer have been an inspiration to many. Karalee will be missed by her two God Children, Cadence and Nathan, as well as her many friends who meant so much to her. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the people who provided medical care for Karalee; her doctors and specialists, the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto and most recently the Palliative Care Team at the St. Boniface Hospital and the Canadian Virtual Hospice. The family wants to extend a special thanks to all of their family and friends for the numerous acts of kindness, as well as TD Canada Trust and the Winnipeg Fire Department, Chief Ken Sim, Chief Steven Sumka and the United Firefighters of Winnipeg, (UFFW) Local 867, Jim Hemphill, and its members for their long term caring and support during Karalee's illness. A celebration of Karalee's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive. No flowers please.
