LENA GRACE ROLFE (published on March 13, 2010)

LENA GRACE ROLFE On March 9, 2010 after a long battle with leukemia, Lena Grace Rolfe passed away peacefully. She is survived by her son Russell Smith (Janet), grandchildren Justin and Meghan Smith, sister Angela Loopeker, nephew James and niece Sharon Loopeker, cousin Clyde Rowett, and step-children Neil, Julian, and Teresa Rolfe. She was predeceased by her parents Isaac (Pat) and Zillah Kilpatrick in 1993. Grace attended Britannia, Isaac Brock and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute. After school, she entered the Grace Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1955 as an R.N. After holding a variety of positions at the Grace and Misericordia Hospitals, she took an early retirement and, with her husband Dr. Hedley Colin Rolfe, moved to Pender Island, BC. Music played a very important role in Grace's life. She sang many solos and accompanied services as an organist at both the Church of the Good Shepherd, and the Pender Island United Community Church for several years. Grace's other passion was gardening. She landscaped a beautiful garden on their property, carving it out of the surrounding forests. Failing health and the passing of her husband brought her home to Winnipeg in 2006. Grace was happy to come back to Winnipeg, which she always called her only home. She reconnected with her family and her grandchildren, that she missed so much. She also reconnected with a lot of her nursing friends, and enjoyed spending time with them. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will be held at Klassen Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2010. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, donations to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave. Rm ON 1160, Winnipeg, R3E 0V9, or Salvation Army, 500-55 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3C 1L8 would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff of N1 South at the Concordia Hospital for their kindness. Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. 338-0331 Send expressions of sympathy at www.klassenfuneralhome.com
