MILLIE MARYANN DUMAS (published on March 13, 2010)

MILLIE MARYANN DUMAS 1926 2010 God put His hands on your tired shoulders and said, My angel, it is time for you to come home. Millie passed away peacefully at Lions Personal Care Centre on Saturday, March 6 after living 84 meaningful years. Millie was predeceased by her husband Ivan and will be dearly missed by her daughter Barbara Hogg, son-in-law Ken Hogg and grandson Dave of Calgary and granddaughter Kimberley Hogg of Toronto; sister Ina Andruskow-Jablonski of Winnipeg; niece Sister Leanne Jablonski of Dayton, Ohio; and nephew Dr. Ted Jablonski and his wife Monique Courcelles and their children Gabrielle and Eric. Millie lived her entire life in Winnipeg and was a woman of many talents. She was an excellent athlete. Her softball throwing record from Isaac Newton High School stood for 60 years. She was blessed with a lovely voice and enjoyed participating in her local Churches' musical activities. Many people have benefited from Millie's beautiful handmade knitted and crocheted items as well as her handmade crafts. Her baking and cooking skills are legendary and were enjoyed by many. Millie was very active in and respected by her many friends and clergy in the Roman Catholic community. She loved teaching Sunday school at St. John Cantius Church and St. Mary's Cathedral and the children loved her. The last few years were very tough for Millie as she battled a broken hip and Alzheimer's. However, thanks to the wonderful care she received at Lions Personal Care Centre, her regular Sunday visits from her sister Ina, her joy at the friends who would pop in, and her angel on earth and caregiver Ocean Boissoneault (OJ), Millie's quality of life was the best it could be given her physical and mental limitations. A special thank you to OJ for the many emails and photos sent after each visit with Millie. They meant so much to her Calgary family and more importantly, provided comfort knowing Millie was being well looked after. A Mass and Celebration of Millie's life will be held at St. John Cantius Church, 846 Burrows Ave. at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, a memorial donation may be made in Millie's name directly to the St. John Cantius Church Building Fund or the Community Director, Marianist Sisters, 30 Sawmill Road, Dayton Ohio, 45409-2522.
