In 1949 Ted joined the Army (Ordnance Corp) and during his 27 years of service and many postings he returned to Winnipeg to begin a second career with the Manitoba Government. After 15 years he retired as Director of Materials Branch. His retirement years were spent traveling, golfing at Charleswood Golf Course in the summer and curling at the Charleswood Curling Club in the winter. He was so proud of the eight-ender his team achieved a few years ago. In the mid-seventies Ted and Maureen were busy building their cottage at Grindstone Provincial Park. He loved nothing better than spending time at his summer home enjoying the fruits of his labour with family and friends. Ted loved hockey having played the game from a young lad. His all-time favourite was Gordie Howe. He was a Winnipeg Jets, Moose and Goldeyes season ticket holder for many years. Ted was a long-time member of the Optimist Club, both here in Winnipeg and London, Ont. Ted was an avid reader. His favourite TV was watching Coronation Street and most sports. The family would like to thank Dr. Pat Harris and his girls at Grace Hospital Cancer Care, Dr. John Milner, and Dr. Mark Elkin for their care and kindness over the past several years. His family also wishes to thank the Emergency, Palliative Care and Rehab Hospital doctors and staff for their thoughtfulness and kindness during his last hours. Maureen and family also wish to thank the residents of Vasa Lund Estates and friends at Charleswood United Church for their thoughtfulness and acts of kindness during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd. with Rev. Michael Wilson presiding.
