GILBERT LAWRENCE WIEBE (published on March 13, 2010)

GILBERT LAWRENCE WIEBE Peacefully with his family by his side, Gilbert Lawrence Wiebe passed away on March 11, 2010, at the age of 64, at the Concordia Hospital. He is survived by his wife Thova Trieu, his brothers Abe and Bob, sisters Margaret, Fran, Barb, Bev, and his birth mother Ann Struthers. His wife Thova and his daughters will miss him most. Brenda (grandchildren Jazmine and Etienne), Michelle (Scott), Madelynn (Trevor and grandchildren Kyle and Jack), Rae Lynn (Russ and grandchildren Wyatt, Sydney, and Logan); as well as many other extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his Mom and Dad, Agatha and George Wiebe, son Raymond and brother Alvin Wiebe. Dad was very active in his home community and church. His accomplishments are many but a few that stand out are being on Town council board and serving as mayor for over 20 years while owning and operating a local hardware store. He enjoyed gospel festivals, and loved the Threshermen's Reunion in Austin. Rodeos and dune buggy rides for the grandkids made Dad smile. No one could outdo Dad on an Easter egg hunt. We all loved Easter and searching the Evergreen Acres for our chocolate baskets. Dad was actively involved in building the Word of Life Church. He loved to see Niverville expand and thrive. Dad's love of sales took him to a new direction as a Real Estate Agent in 1996. He won numerous awards before retiring. Dad worked very hard to give his family vacations. Detroit Lakes, Florida, and camping were memories we will cherish. Dad fought his illness with an amazing determination. A bad fall two years ago left him blind in one eye, and unable to drive. He finally splurged and invested in a 52 TV which he enjoyed very much. Dad was very fortunate to have met Thova at Springs Church. We are grateful that she had a special love and provided daily care for Dad in their home for the last six years. We were always amazed at how well they could communicate with each other. Thova did a wonderful job at interpreting for Dad so we could at least converse with him. Dad and Thova moved to Winnipeg in August 2009. Dad loved cruising the malls, running into old friends. Thank you to his brothers and sisters that have stood by his side and now by ours. The funeral service will take place Monday, March 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Word of Life Mission Church, 233 3rd Street S., Niverville, with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at the Niverville Hespeler Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Gilbert Wiebe may be made to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, Room MS107 - 820 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9. Arrangements by Birchwood Funeral Chapel 1-204-346-1030 or 1-888-454-1030
