VIC BINKLEY (published on March 20, 2010)

VIC BINKLEY With great sadness, the family of Victor M. Binkley, announce his peaceful passing in Kelowna, BC on March 16, 2010 just two weeks short of his 91st birthday. Vic is survived by his four children, Bob (Shirley), Manse (Anna), Laurie (Kevin), Rick (Trish), 11 cherished grandchildren, four great-grand-children; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Neilsen and Ellen Manton; brother-in-law Gavin Neilsen (Joan), several nieces, nephews and cousins. Vic was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mae; his parents, Olive and Mansel Binkley and his brother Jack Binkley (Aimee). Vic was born in Shaunavon, SK on March 29, 1919 and later moved with his family to Saskatoon where he obtained his Bachelor of Accounting Degree and his Chartered Accountant designation. He then acquired a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Brandon, Manitoba, which he operated successfully for the next 35 years. Active in the community, he served on the Board and later as Chair of Wawanesa Insurance for 25 years, was a tireless fundraiser for the Brandon Family YMCA in the early to mid 1960s and was instrumental in the early formation of the Brandon Area Foundation. Vic loved the car business, accounting, his trusty adding machine, going over the statements with the boys, entertaining family and friends at the Clear Lake cottage and Palm Desert condo, his morning ritual of coffee on the deck or patio, consistently getting up and down from 80 yards and in, flying his Cessna on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon and listening to the music of Connie Francis and Theresa Brewer. His quiet, gentle demeanor and impeccable manners belied his quick wit, wonderful sense of humour and great smile. Our family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Orchard Manor Personal Care Home in Kelowna for the wonderful compassion and care shown to our father during his six years of residency. In accordance with Vic's wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family celebration of Vic's life to take place at a later date. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Brandon Family YMCA, 231-8th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 3X2, a facility special to Vic's heart, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Forever loved and remembered. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com 250-860-7077
