JASON EDWARD CHOPTUIK (published on March 20, 2010)

JASON EDWARD CHOPTUIK Jason was a kind and gentle soul who never complained, no matter what life threw at him. He fought a long, courageous battle and never gave up. From school to sports to his job to his disease, Jason gave it his all to the end. He did not know the meaning of the word can't . He lived his whole life that way. But, like a good poker player, when he knew there was nothing left to be won, he quietly folded his hand. That was his way, the way he lived and the way he died. His attitude has taught us all so many lessons about life. His trials have made us all better people. He was our hero, our inspiration. Jason enjoyed the company of his many friends and had many adventures over the years, mostly within the confines of the law. He was generous to a fault and would give away his last dollar and go without if need be. He loved his music more than almost anything - especially Bryan Adams! His radio was always on. Another of his pleasures in his early years was catching frogs and crayfish at his grandparents farm - and he loved chasing his terrified sisters with garter snakes. He never got tired of that one! Jason was born December 10, 1962 in Birtle, MB and passed away quietly and peacefully at Riverview Health Care Centre on March 15, 2010. He lived his life in a variety of places in Manitoba - Sandy Bay, Dauphin, Fisher Branch, Brandon and Winnipeg. Left to cherish his memory are father Ed Choptuik (who has tirelessly devoted his life to making Jason's life just a little bit better - thanks Dad); mother Margaret (Ken Woodley); sisters Kim (Barry Tycholiz) and Carol (Bill Van de Vorst); brother Trevor; also nephews Bryan Bosak (April Proulx) and Bradley Bosak (Rachelle Schattenkirk) and great-nephews Mason, Damon and Jacob. As well there are many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Jason was predeceased by his sister Tracy Choptuik and grandparents John and Nellie Choptuik of Shoal Lake, MB and Andrew and Helen Malofie of Fisher Branch, MB. We would like to thank some special people who meant a lot to Jason. To Jodie Reilly, for her years of devoted and selfless care and friendship. To Robert Paquette, who continued to support and visit Jason faithfully over the years and who was like a big brother to the J Man. To Paul from Preferred Transport for the many years of friendship and excellent service. Thanks to the staff of the Princess Elizabeth and King Edward from 1995 to 1997; the staff of the Young People's Ward at Tache Health Centre from 1997 to 2000 and the staff at Riverview 4E and 2W from 2000 to 2010....far, far too many great caregivers over the years to name you all. We are so grateful to you all, but we must especially thank Linda, Maureen, and Lisa who were with Jason when he died. We can't thank you enough. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date. Donations in Jason's memory may be made to the MS Society, Manitoba Division, 100 - 1465 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg, MB R3T 1L8. Vichnaya Pamyat
