FREDERICK ARTHUR RAYMOND JACKSON (published on March 20, 2010)



FREDERICK ARTHUR RAYMOND JACKSON On Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the Portage District General Hospital, Frederick Arthur Raymond Jackson passed away two weeks shy of his 94th birthday. Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Beth Kerr officiating. A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. Fred was born on March 30, 1916, son of Fred and Margaret Jackson at Regina, Saskatchewan where he was raised and received his education. In 1927, the family moved to Lake Valley, Saskatchewan to farm. In the early 1930's, Fred started doing custom farming on the Prairies with his father, Fred Sr., and Uncle Tom. In 1946, he met and married Elva Jean Moody and they purchased a farm in the Macdonald area. They farmed in Macdonald until 1973 when they retired and moved to the west side of Portage. In 2000, Fred and Elva moved to The Dalton Grove Estates in Portage. Fred was a member of Trinity United Church and was actively involved in community and church activities. He loved golfing and curling and was a long-standing member of the Portage Golf Club and the Masters Curling Club. He enjoyed travelling. Over the years he made several trips to the west coast and travelled with friends to Alaska, Newfoundland, Hawaii, California and Texas. Special times were spent playing cards with friends, socializing with family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife Elva, brother Bill and sister Florence, he will be dearly missed by his son Doug and wife Cathy, granddaughters Marnie and Khalie and husband Greg Jackson-Davis and great-grandchildren Dechlan and Nevyn all of Winnipeg, and sister Frances Pottruff of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. A special thank you to Verna Bailey for all her help and support as well as Dr. Kinnear for his continuous care over the years.
