ROSS OLAF OLSON (published on March 20, 2010)

ROSS OLAF OLSON September 5, 1928 - March 14, 2010 After a brave struggle through a lengthy illness, Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep at Seven Oaks General Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents Olaf and Rosie Mae (Cosens) Olson, sister, Kaye (Doug) Beckett and brother, Eric (Peggy) Olson. Leaving to mourn are sons: Darrell (Shirley), Jim (Brenda-Lee), Stanley, Rob (Charna) and daughter: Vanessa. Grandchildren: Amber, Wes, Brian, Holly, Dylan, Clayton, Sally-Rae and great-grandson, Mack. Also grieving are loving sisters: Lynne (Bruce) Moore and Lois (Bob) Nordin with lifelong friends, Roy and Lois Anderson of Calgary, AB. Special thanks to Dad's neighbours, especially Doug Carey for all the help over the last few years. Remembering also is Dad's wife of 40 plus years, Rickey Olson, along with lots of extended family. Dad was born in Gunton, MB, growing up in and around Stonewall. His military service with the Canadian Engineers sent him across the country and into the far north. A heavy equipment operator his entire working life, his ability with a dragline, backhoe or crane was considered Poetry in Motion . Building roads or laying a pipeline, many remember his skill at the controls. Working for many companies through the years, he spent the last few decades with Nelson River Construction until his retirement. He leaves behind many friends and co-workers. Dad was always willing to help his family financially or with anything that needed fixing . Carpentry or mechanical problems would be re-rigged in no time! His hobbies were curling, camping and fishing. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. A champion story teller, he chronicled his generation for all to enjoy. Thank you to the staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital for their care and patience. In accordance with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place with no formal service. A celebration of his life and inurnment will take place with family at a later date. Voyage Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
