DENNIS WAYNE ZELT (published on March 24, 2010)



DENNIS WAYNE ZELT August 7, 1944 - March 20, 2010 It is with profound sadness that his wife Linda (Hanner), the love of his life, announces the passing of her cherished husband Dennis. On the first day of spring, Saturday, March 20, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. Dennis began his new life in the hands of Our Heavenly Father. Remaining to forever cherish Dennis' memory are his wife Linda; father Wilfred Zelt; sister, Dianne Frank (Ken); sisters and brothers-in-law Trudy and Gordon Sachvie, Steve and Pat Hanner, Margaret and Rudy Gaugel and Bobby Hanner; nieces and nephews, Catherine Frank, Brian Frank (Keiley Abbat), Greg Frank, Derrick Sachvie (Wendy), Dave Sachvie (Sheila), Karl Gaugel (Ros), AnnaLisa Pettyjohn (Erik), Steve Gaugel (Jen). Always amused by children he loved being Uncle Dennis to great-nieces and nephews, Aurora Norrie, Stephanie, Madison, Laura, Matthew and Mark Sachvie, Emma and David Pettyjohn, Elizabeth, Julia, Charlie and Brigita Gaugel. Dennis was also survived by aunts and uncles, Lorraine and Ron McLeod, Gordon and Eileen Zelt, Harold and Jo Ann Zelt; Amanda, Larry and Kathy Lechelt; numerous Zelt cousins. His beloved mother Marguerite Zelt and loyal companion Scruffy predeceased him in 1993. Dennis graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science Engineering (Electrical) Degree in 1971 and with a Bachelor of Science; Major Computer Science with Distinction in 1996. He worked for Borland Construction Inc. for 22 years. After changing careers in 1996 he worked at CSIL for three years; then in 1999 established Dezway Systems Ltd. Dennis was an intelligent, determined and caring individual who had strong morals and values and took great pride in everything he did. He was committed to his family and friends. He was a jack-of-all-trades and master of all! Dennis loved nature, gardening, carpentry, dogs, books, playing his guitars, cribbage, bridge and above all he loved Linda. On Friday, March 26 at 11:00 a.m. Dennis' Funeral Service will be held in the Lutheran Church of The Redeemer, 59 Academy Road at Wellington Crescent with Pastor Jim Scholz presider. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to his service. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis' true and loyal friends, Bill Boyaniwsky, Mike and Joanne Boychuk, Connie Clark, Sharon Domey and Glen Simpson. Interment will be held on Saturday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. Those wishing to attend please gather at the Cemetery entrance gates at 10:45 a.m. On February 2, 2009 Dennis began his battle and journey with heart disease. He spent the past 13 and one half months at St. Boniface Hospital struggling for his life. We were blessed throughout this journey to walk with the most incredible force of human beings without whose skills, compassion and caring the journey would have been unbearable. What a privilege to have met so many individuals who became like family to us. Our most humble thanks and gratitude to Dr. Darren Freed (who never gave up on Dennis), Dr. Shelly Zieroth, Dr. Mike Moon, the entire staff in C.S.I.U. (we are so grateful to all of you for your care and compassion during the first four months and your continuous perseverance throughout the many setbacks Dennis experienced); the nurses on 2B Cardiac Surgery Ward: Lisa, Irene, Ruth, Ghenet, Lynn, Jodi, Sarah, Romellie, Adrian, Chantal, Kristine, Janice, Kathy, Molly, Valerie, Kim, Flanna, Joceline, Barbara, Laura, Stacey, Jessie, Oksana, Kristen, Pat, Tricia, Cassandra, Senait, Sandra, Alice, Lauren, Monica, Florence, Courtney, Linda, Jacqueline, Katherine; You are all Angels! The dedicated group of perfussionists: Louise Dyck (whose devotion to Dennis never wavered), Derrick, Paul, Marten and Todd; the entire group of nurse's assistants; especially Trent (our main man) and Jennifer; the CAs, especially Louise F. and Ahmad; Shari, Debbie, and Marcie for your support and assistance. Thank you Steve and Pat, Trudy and Gordon, Joanne and Mike for your love and support. Your compassion and caring for Dennis and me throughout this entire journey will never be forgotten. Pastor Scholz, thank you for being with our family throughout, and offering us spiritual support and compassion. We are so grateful to all our family, friends, neighbours and relatives who faithfully kept us in your thoughts and prayers. We thank God for everyone who prayed for us throughout the past year; Heather Gittens (a steadfast partner in prayer) and Erin McLean for their caring and friendship. Special thanks to angels Lisa, Jessie and Monica who lovingly tended to both Dennis and Linda during the last two days of transition.
