ALPHONSINE VANDAL (published on March 31, 2010)

ALPHONSINE VANDAL (nee ST. GODARD) September 21, 1917 - March 27, 2010 It is with love and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alphonsine Vandal at the age of 92. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Eugène Vandal, whom she married in 1936 and missed dearly, as well as her siblings Arthur, Irène, Léo, Roland, Flore, Fernand, and Claude. Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Brunel Vandal (Dianne) and Gisèle Fortier (Augustin), her grandchildren Donna, Denise, Mark, Paul, Patrick, Mélanie, and Miguel, her great and great-great-grandchildren, her two sisters-in-law Doril Vandal and Marguerite St. Godard, as well as other family and friends. Alphonsine was born and raised in St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba. She spent most her adult life in St. Boniface, moving there in 1941, and worked for many years at the St. Boniface Hospital. Alphonsine also spent many summers enjoying the great outdoors with family and friends at her trailer on the lake in St. Malo, Manitoba. We would like to thank the staff at Foyer Valade, where she spent her last few years, for their compassionate care and the emergency room staff at Victoria General Hospital for their kindness during a very difficult time. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 1 at Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald Street, with reception to follow. A private interment ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alphonsine's memory to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
