JOHN TAYLOR (Louis John Taylor) With great sadness, we announce the passing of our father Louis John Taylor (John or Johnny Taylor) on Saturday, March 27, 2010. John will be dearly missed by daughters Geraldine (Trevor Dring) and Elaine (Walter Turchyn), and grandchildren Marlis Dring, David Dring, and Brian Turchyn. Also surviving are sisters Margaret Dewar and Gwen (Vern) York, sister-in-law Helen Taylor, and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his loving wife Mary (nee Burek), his parents Lewis John and Emily Taylor, as well as brothers Gordon (Eva) and Norman, and brother-in-law, Harry Dewar. Dad was born July 26, 1921 in Winnipeg, and raised in East Kildonan and Elmwood. He started working at Swift Canada, then enlisted to serve four years overseas during the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Artillery /Ordnance Corps. He returned to work at Swift Canada until the plant closed in 1978. While working at Swift, he met his future wife, Mary. John and Mary moved to Nichol Avenue in 1950, where Dad resided until this year. Dad loved to travel and enjoyed many trips together with Mom. Dad was an avid golfer and a member of Transcona Golf Course for 29 years. He curled with Civic Caledonian Senior Curling Club, and bowled with the Monday morning seniors at Polo Park Lanes. John was a devoted long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Norwood Branch) and Swift's Supervisors Club. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (just south of the Mint), Winnipeg. The family would like to thank Dr. Simon Wong for his compassionate care of our father during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memoriam to the Salvation Army or charity of your choice. GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
