CORNELIA BROWN (published on April 05, 2010)

CORNELIA BROWN (nee SLAGTER) June 7, 1925 - March 31, 2010 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Left to cherish Connie's memories are two daughters, Winifred (Wynn) Ferguson and Caroline (Carrie) Brown; son-in-law Allen Ferguson; grandchildren, Alanna Ferguson and James Ferguson, nephews and nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Jim and by her three brothers and three sisters. Connie was born and raised in Haarlem, The Netherlands. After completing secondary school she trained as a physiotherapist. Her spirit of adventure took her to find employment in France, England and later in Scotland where she met her husband, James Brown in 1955. Connie and Jim later settled in Canada, raising their family. In 1967, Connie decided to utilize her linguistic talent by studying French at the University of Winnipeg, and later at the University of Manitoba, where she earned her Master's Degree. She continued to make use of her language skills by volunteering at the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature for 20 years. She was also an active member of the Alliance Fran├žaise of Manitoba for many years. Connie enjoyed travel and making new discoveries. She also loved music. She is well remembered for her home parties, where she played the piano and sang cabaret style with her guests. Connie will be most fondly remembered for her love of life, desire for life-long learning and her caring gentle spirit, always being there for us. Many thanks to the staff of Lion's Manor and Lion's Personal Care Centre for excellent work and compassionate care. A celebration of Connie's life will take place on Friday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amnesty International or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. In my Father's house are many, I am going there to prepare a place for you. John 14:2 Chapel Lawn 885-9715
