DANIEL EDMUND WILKS (published on April 07, 2010)

DANIEL EDMUND WILKS It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Edmund Wilks announces his passing on April 3, 2010 at Deer Lodge Centre. He was born January 2, 1926 in Winnipeg. Dad was predeceased by his much loved wife of 53 years, Maxine Wilks, his mother Zoe Gavine, father Alfred Robert Wilks and brother Alfred Wilks. He leaves to mourn, his daughter Patricia Winton (Richard); sons, Daniel Jr. (Janice), Kelly and Timothy; and his beloved sister Joan Johanesson and sister Marie. Also left to cherish his memory are his seven grand-children, Christopher Winton (Tiina), Patricia Winton-Grey (Ken), Mandy Wilks, Jay Wilks, Kolton Wilks, Tyler Wilks, Jena Wilks; and three great- grandsons, Dechlan Winton, Alastair Winton-Grey and Ethan Winton. As a youngster he was blessed with a fine singing voice and sang on the radio with the McKinley Choir. While still in his teens, he enlisted in the Armed Forces and served our country seeing action in France and Holland during the Second World War. Dad was a proud member of The Winnipeg Fire Department for 36 years, retiring as a Captain in 1986. Dad and Mom had a trailer and cabana at Twin Beaches for several years and loved to go there to relax, play cards and socialize with friends. One of their favourite pastimes was getting out in a boat and fishing. After Dad's retirement, he and Mom enjoyed seeing other parts of Canada and made trips to the West and East coasts. To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, they toured England thus fulfilling Mom's lifelong dream. The family extends grateful thanks to the staff of Tower 7 who cared for him when his health began to fail. He is with Mom now, something he had prayed for since her passing. May they rest in peace together. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Fire Fighters Burn Fund 303 - 83 Garry Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4J9. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
