JAMES STUART MAXWELL (published on April 07, 2010)

JAMES STUART MAXWELL Peacefully in his sleep on April 2, 2010 after a lengthy illness, Jim passed away at the Portage District Hospital with family by his side. He leaves behind to lovingly miss him his wife and best friend Diane, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, three brothers, a sister, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father and a sister. Jim was born in Saint John, NB on September 18, 1937. Jim and Diane moved to Winnipeg in 1979. He worked for Manitoba Telephone System until he retired in 1997. After spending the winter down south, they moved to Portage la Prairie in the spring of 1998. Jim went to work at the Portage School Division as a school bus driver. It was a highlight of his life. He loved the children on his bus and they loved him. It was so hard for him to give it up due to ill health. He missed it so much. Jim loved spending his summers at Millers' Camping Resort since 1988. He loved the Portage Terriers Hockey Team, curling and football. Thank you to Lori and Angelo for being able to be there for the last year and a half for support and help. It made things so much easier for everyone. Also to our friends who were always there to give a hand when needed or not, especially at the campground. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and aides at Portage District General Hospital for their care and compassion for Jim and his family. A special thank you to Dr. Ken Parker for all his care since Jim's illness. As per Jim's request he has been cremated. There will be a celebration of his life on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oddfellows Towers Hall, 151 Royal Road North, Portage la Prairie. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice to be made in Jim's memory. Condolences may be sent to the family c/o Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road South, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 1T8, 1-800-303-4621 or friends may leave a message of sympathy on our web site www.omegafuneralhome.com Dedicated to those we serve .
