RONALD ARTHUR HENRY (published on April 07, 2010)

RONALD ARTHUR HENRY Peacefully on Thursday, April 1, 2010, Ronald Arthur Henry passed away at Victoria Hospital. Ron was predeceased by his parents Andrew (Russ) and Agnes Henry and brother Douglas Lindsey Henry. He was also predeceased by Joan, the love of his life and wife for 45 years. Ron is survived by his son Douglas Arthur and grandchildren, Patrick and Margot Henry. Ron was born in Winnipeg but spent the first five years of his life on the Family farm in Grandview, MB. They moved to St Vital in the throws of the Great Depression and lived in a little house near what is now Ste. Anne's Rd. and Fermor Ave. Dad attended Norberry School and Glen Lawn High School. In 1942, shortly after his 17th birthday Father joined the RCAF and embarked on his training as a Wireless Air Gunner (WAG). He graduated his course and was sent to England in early 1944 where he flew with the 408 Squadron. He never spoke much about the war. After Victory in Europe Dad volunteered for the Japanese Theatre but spent the remainder of the war on a troop ship in Halifax harbour. In 1949 Dad rejoined the RCAF. Starting out as an Airframe Technician he worked his way through the ranks and retired as a Master Warrant Officer (MWO) after 33 years of service. He married my mother in 1950 and they travelled extensively through Europe and Canada through Dad's postings. Dad retired to work at Bristol Aerospace in Aircraft Engineering and their Technical Writing department for another 14 years. Upon this retirement his real work began. My mother kept him very active with Regent Park UC, Age and Opportunities and the myriads of other organizations in which she was involved. A memorial service will take place on Friday, April 9, at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road, at 2:00 p.m. NEIL BARDAL INC. (204) 949 2200 nbardal.mb.ca
