ROGER VAN MITCHELL (published on April 08, 2010)

ROGER VAN MITCHELL September 18, 1964 - April 04, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Roger Mitchell our dear brother, companion and uncle. Roger was loved and will be sorely missed by Jean-Pierre Weilbrenner and brother Wayne Mitchell (Linda). Nieces: Brittany Mitchell (Chris Schifferns), Chelsey Mitchell (Duffy Germain), and Delainey Mitchell, and one great- nephew Jacob Schifferns, as well as Aunts: Margaret Abbott, Jean Warner, Alice Kuntz and numerous cousins in Saskatchewan. Roger was predeceased by his parents, Clifford William Mitchell in 1986 and Dorothy Patricia Mitchell in 1999. Roger was born on September 18, 1964 in Regina, Saskatchewan, where he remained throughout his childhood. In 1988 Roger graduated from the University of Regina with a Degree in Business. In 1989 he moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. He loved the city and made his home there. From the time Roger was a teenager he worked with the elderly. He had all the patience in the world for seniors and a special way of showing his respect. During his career in the Health Care Profession, Roger managed Senior Care Facilities throughout Manitoba, from fly-in locations Oxford House and Norway House, McCreary to his current position in Vita. Roger gave many dedicated years to his career; he truly cared about his staff and his residents. He found his current position both rewarding and fulfilling although his greatest wish was to work in Winnipeg. He wanted to be close to his home, family and friends. Roger's family in Winnipeg included his companion of more than 20 years Jean-Pierre and his two Welsh Terriers Reba and Radar. His best friend John and many other close friends. Viewing will take place on Friday April 9, 2010 between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Funeral will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home. A private Memorial Service will be held at St James Anglican Church in Regina, and interment will take place at Riverside Memorial where Roger will be laid to rest with his Mom and Dad. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Suite 200, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6 or a charity of your choice.
