JOHN GOWRILUK (published on April 08, 2010)

JOHN GOWRILUK Born: June 05, 1917 Died: April 05, 2010 John was born in Gonor, Manitoba, to George and Mary Gowriluk, and grew up with his brothers, Bill, Alec, Matt, Sam, Vic, Art, Ray and his sister Violet. John was married to Mary Powadiuk in 1940, and was predeceased by Mary on July 29, 2004. John and Mary raised their family of four children in St. Andrews, Manitoba, and were later blessed with seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In 1946, John and his brothers founded Midland Fruit Co. Ltd., which flourished through their dedication and hard work in Winnipeg and Northwestern Ontario. John took great pride in Midland but he never lost his love of the land and continued to farm in St. Andrews while he and Mary resided there. St. Andrews benefited greatly from John's involvement as a Council Member as well as from generous donations to school and community fundraisers. John's life centered on family and friends. His brothers and sister have always been a vital part of his life. He will be missed by his children, Ken and JoAnn, Carole and Keith, Janis and Greg, Glenn and Lori; his grandchildren, Allen and Debbie, Jon, Jennie and Scott, Zachary and Lisa, Erin and Jerry, Jared, Braden; his great-grandchildren, Blake, Connor, Elyssa, Lauren, Masyn and Afton. He is also survived by brothers, Bill, Sam, Art, Ray, and sister Violet, sisters-in-law, Emily, Evelyn, Margaret, Barbara and Edna. In addition to his loving wife Mary, he was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Harvey, Alec, Matt and sister-in-law Norma and daughter-in-law Elsie. Our family is also saddened by the passing of John's brother Victor on April 6, 2010. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Our family wishes to thank the staff of the Maples Personal Care Home for their amazing care and respect during Dad's residence there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to CancerCare Manitoba or Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
