MELITA KLASSEN (published on April 10, 2010)

MELITA KLASSEN (BRAUN) Melita Klassen passed away peacefully at the Bethania Personal Care Home on April 6, 2010, with family at her side. Melita was predeceased by her husband Edward (1996), her parents Johann and Helene, her sisters Tina Bock, Susie Loewen, Elizabeth Driedger and Helen Driedger, and her brothers John and Harry Braun. Her memory will be cherished by her sisters-in-law Anne Braun and Erica Heinrichs, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was born on December 23, 1918 in the village of Grigorievka, Ukraine. The Johann Braun family immigrated to Canada in 1925. Melita attended school in Gretna, completing grades 10 and 11 and then graduated from high school in Headingley. Melita was baptized by Aeltester Johann Klassen on June 5, 1938, at the Schoenwieser Gemeinde, in Pigeon Lake. Melita joined the First Mennonite Church in 1946 and loved singing in the choir. She married Edward Klassen in 1952. Melita worked as a private secretary, for the Manitoba Government, in the Department of Agriculture for many years until her retirement. After Eddie's passing, Melita chose to move into Autumn Haus on Wellington Ave., where her sisters Susie and Helen already lived. She resided there from 1998 2007. Melita's health failed, and in 2007, the medical profession decided that it was necessary that she move into a nursing home. Her last years were spent at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home. Many thanks are extended to everyone at Bethania for their compassion and excellent care. In lieu of flowers, Melita requested that donations be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB, R3T 5K9 or Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Mennonite Church at 922 Notre Dame Ave., viewing one hour prior. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
