FLORENCE AMELIA JOHNSON (nee MAYNARD) Florence Amelia Johnson (nee Maynard) of Minnedosa passed away March 30, 2010 at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home at the age of 91. Florence was born in Dauphin, MB and attended schools in Fort William, ON (now Thunder Bay), Calgary, AB and Winnipeg, MB. She lived with her family in several locations throughout western Canada while her father built bridges for Dominion Bridge Co. After graduating from high school, Florence worked at Eaton's Department Store before attending Nursing School at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. As a new Registered Nurse, Florence heard that Dr. Andrew of the Lady Minto Hospital in Minnedosa was in urgent need of staff, so she moved to Minnedosa, where she worked at the Lady Minto, the old Minnedosa Hospital, and the Personal Care Home. After retirement, Florence volunteered for many years with Lynn Tolton in the Physiotherapy Department, and she volunteered her nursing services at the Elim Covenant Home in Pasadena, CA for two winters. While working in Minnedosa, Florence fell in love with and married Irving Johnson, living on his farm south of town until moving to the Valleyview Apartments in the fall of 1997. Florence moved to the Personal Care Home in 2004. Florence had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was a longtime member of the Minnedosa Evangelical Covenant Church. She was an active member of the Covenant Women for over 50 years, and held many leadership positions. She sang in the choir, was Camp Nurse at Covenant Heights Bible Camp in Clear Lake, held the position of Church Financial Secretary for many years, and served as a board member for the Canadian Covenant Conference. Florence was also a member of the Willow Grove Hospital Auxiliary for 50 plus years, holding positions of leadership in that organization. Florence was predeceased by her husband Irving in 1998, her brother Russell Maynard of Nova Scotia, and her sister Ivy Maynard of Edmonton. She is survived by her daughter Diane Augustson (David) of Edmonton and her son Grant Johnson (Faye) of Minnedosa, five beautiful granddaughters, Janesta Augustson, Candice Nelson (Doug), Chelsea, Kaila and Quinn Johnson, and her great-grandson Brody Tractor James Nelson. Funeral service was held on April 3, 2010 from the Minnedosa Covenant Church with Rev. Dan Pearson officiating. Interment followed in the Smoland Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers were the Covenant Women, the Hospital Auxiliary and nursing staff. Florence will be missed by all who cherished her love, friendship and loving care. Minnedosa Funeral Service was in care of arrangements. After you have suffered a little while, our God...will come and pick you up, and set you firmly in place. To Him be all power over all things, forever. Amen 1 Peter 5:10-11 |
