| IRIS L. CUMMING May 31, 1929 - April 7, 2010 Peacefully, with family by her side, Iris passed away at the Misericordia Health Centre at the age of 80 years. Remaining to forever cherish Iris' memory are her husband of 55 years of marriage, Robert; daughters Lynn, Carroll, LeAmber (Iain); grandchildren Dustin, Matthew, Josephine, Roth, Laird, Rhiannon; sister Doris; brother-in-law Ken; son-in-law Ron; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Jack Bowes; sisters Freda, Mary, Grace; brothers John, Leonard, David; and grandson Jeremy. Iris survived polio as a child, and went on to roller-skate at the Winnipeg Roller Rink. She enjoyed her husband's postings to Europe and gave birth to her eldest daughters there. She worked at Eatons for many years with her best friend Alice Graham in the Men's Department. Iris was the social centre of her family and friends, and always had an open door for all. She loved playing cards, Bingo, and the slot machines, and shared those pastimes with her family and friends. She found a kindred soul with Marta Kubicek, and the two of them were known to travel for hours to play Bingo or the slots. Iris was a generous soul, a tough cookie, who endured against all odds. She will be greatly missed. A service celebrating Iris' life will be held in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, 2235 Silver Avenue at Whytewold Road at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010. A tea will follow in the main hall at Southglen Mobile Home Community, 38 Springwood Dr. An interment will be held in Stonewall at a later date. |
