CAROLYN JOAN KINNIBURGH (published on April 12, 2010)

CAROLYN JOAN KINNIBURGH (LAYTON) (nee WOOD) Peacefully on Friday, April 9, 2010, surrounded by her family Joan Kinniburgh passed away at the Victoria General Hospital. Joan was predeceased by her first husband William Peter Layton, and her second husband William Fletcher Kinniburgh, her brothers Daniel, McGregor and sister Elaine Askew. She will be lovingly remembered by Karen (Alan) Gilchrist, Tannis (Bill) Gordon, Greg (Mary) Layton, grandchildren: Lee (Jessica Anseeuw), Quinn, Kira, Daniel, Melanie, Christopher, and her granddog Missy. She will also be missed by her sister-in-law Kay Wood and niece Lana Swan, childhood friend Shirlee Miller and her many friends at Kirchoff Gardens, especially Dot Brown. Joan grew up on Arlington Street attending Laura Secord school and St. Mary's Academy. She worked for the R.C.M.P. prior to her first marriage. Joan lived in Redditt, and Sioux Lookout, Ontario where she started raising her family. She still was in contact with many friends from those communities up until her death. Joan moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to her family following the death of her first husband. She worked for the Health Services Commission and the provincial government for 20 years; in the Department of Mines and Natural Resources In retirement Joan spent many a happy day at the family cottage in Wanasing, on Lake Winnipeg. She also enjoyed line dancing, bingo, and occasional day trips to casinos. Her sense of humour and her sense of adventure played a big part in her life. Joan stayed active even in her later years always looking for a new experience; whether it was obtaining her driver's licence at age 55, tubing behind the boat at age 83 or going out on the watercraft. She never golfed a game of golf, threw a rock in curling but they were a big part of her life and she enjoyed a good game either on TV or being there in person. Joan touched the lives of many with her joy of living and she always took an interest in the lives of others no matter who or what age they were. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Joan's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010, Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (South of the Royal Canadian Mint). Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Special thanks are extended to the wonderful caring staff of the 5th floor, Victoria General Hospital, in particular nurses Audrey, Albert and Phyllis for your expertise, care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joan to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550
