SHIRLEY JEAN WHITE (published on April 13, 2010)

SHIRLEY JEAN WHITE May 31, 1946 - April 10, 2010 After a brief but heroic battle, Mom passed away early in the morning of April 10, 2010, with her family at her bedside. Mom is predeceased by her parents, Edith Buchan White (1986) and Edgar White (1996). Mom leaves behind to cherish her memory her brother Dave White (Valerie); daughter Deb Huff-Magarrell (Paul); sons Jay Huff (Tracy) and Rick Huff (Tracey); grandsons Griffin and Flyn Magarrell; and furry grandkids Alpha, Franki and Ella. Mom was born in Winnipeg in 1946 and resided here for most of her life, living briefly in St. Albert, Alberta in the 80s before coming home with her children to spend the rest of her life. Mom was employed by Manitoba Hydro, starting her career there in 1983 as a Temp and working her way up to the position of Spec Writer for the Purchasing Department. Along the way she formed many lasting friendships with her co-workers. To Mom, her co-workers were her second family. Mom was an avid coffee drinker and a creature of habit, and could be found every Saturday at St. Vital Centre with her Tim Horton's coffee and bagel. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her friends Wayne and Joanne and would join them without fail every week, rain, snow or shine. She always looked forward to her time with her coffee buddies. Mom loved music and before she became ill you would be able to find her walking on a treadmill at Shapes, keeping in time to the beat playing on her discman. She loved live music and went to many concerts with family and friends. We would like to thank Dr. Michael West, Dr. Joseph Silvaggio, Residents Sergei Rassazoff, Alex Drofa, and the entire Neuro team in SICU, Step Down and A5 at the Health Sciences Centre. You all went above and beyond in providing excellent care for our Mom and we are forever grateful to you all for that. Cremation has taken place with interment planned at a later time. A celebration of Mom's life will take place on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Charleswood United Church Hall, 4820 Roblin Blvd. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Health Sciences Centre Research Foundation's Breakthrough program can be made in Shirley's name.
